Birgunj Metropolitan City has announced a budget of Rs 3.22 billion for the fiscal year 2025/26.

 Birgunj Metropolitan City has announced a budget of Rs 3.22 billion for the upcoming fiscal year 2025/26, which is Rs 330 million more than last year’s budget.


Presenting the budget at the 17th municipal assembly on Monday, Deputy Mayor Imtiyaz Alam shared the details of spending and income plans. Of the total budget, 70% (Rs 2.26 billion) will go towards regular operating costs, nearly 29% (Rs 923.4 million) will be used for development projects, and around 1% (Rs 306.4 million) is set aside for financial management.


The city expects to raise Rs 1.15 billion through its own internal sources, while it looks forward to receiving Rs 1.37 billion from the federal government. Other expected sources include Rs 237.8 million from federal revenue sharing, Rs 50 million from the provincial government, and Rs 106.7 million from provincial revenue sharing. Income from property registration is expected to bring in Rs 250 million, and Rs 150 million will be drawn from the city’s cash reserves.


Deputy Mayor Alam said the budget focuses on key areas such as education, health, agriculture, tourism, sanitation, environmental protection, infrastructure development, and digital services.
