Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City has announced its budget for the fiscal year 2025/26, with a strong focus on education, health, and employment.

 KATHMANDU, JUNE 23 — Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City has unveiled a budget of Rs 3.36 billion for the fiscal year 2025/26. Presenting the budget at the municipal assembly, Deputy Mayor Sabitra Devi Aryal said the city will focus on key sectors such as education, health, employment, tourism, and agriculture.

A major highlight is the introduction of a “Learn and Earn” program for undergraduate and postgraduate students, who will be engaged in areas like traffic management. Rs 10 million has been allocated for this initiative, in partnership with the private sector.

To promote tourism and establish Butwal as a travel destination, Rs 5 million has been set aside, while Rs 11.5 million will go toward promoting the city’s cultural heritage.

In the agriculture sector, Rs 10 million will fund the "Butwal Farmers, Our Pride" program. The city has also allocated Rs 50 million to support girls' education under the “Educate Daughters” initiative and Rs 3 million for providing clothing and educational support to underprivileged children.

Digital education is another focus area, with Rs 10 million allocated to improve online learning platforms and computer education in community schools. Additionally, Rs 70 million will be used to improve the local curriculum.

In terms of healthcare, Rs 300,000 has been reserved for women’s health checkups, including breast and cervical cancer screenings and video X-rays. Another Rs 600,000 will support the operation of hospitals in Wards 13 and 17.

The budget also includes funds for women entrepreneurs, promoting traditional occupations in the Dalit community, green road development, cowshed management, farming tools, support for dairy farmers, and running night markets in Kalikapath, Amarpath, and Traffic Chowk.

Finally, Rs 15 million has been allocated to manage and survey informal settlements and squatter areas.
