Chicago dazzles Kathmandu with stunning performance and powerful message
Kathmandu, June 16
The classic Broadway musical Chicago wowed audiences in Kathmandu on Saturday with a spectacular performance full of energy, style, and social commentary.
Organized by the Laya School of Performing Arts and directed by Alizé Biannic, the show was held at Lord of the Drinks (LOD) in Thamel. The musical explores the power of the media and how fame can influence justice and public opinion.
Originally written in 1975 with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a script by Ebb and Bob Fosse, Chicago is set in the Jazz Age and is based on a 1926 play by Maurine Dallas Watkins. It was inspired by real-life crimes and criminals Watkins covered as a reporter. The story satirizes corruption in the legal system and how criminals can become celebrities.
