Contempt of court petition filed against govt over river material export

Kathmandu, June 8 — Senior Advocate Dinesh Tripathi has filed a petition at the Supreme Court, accusing several government offices — including the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministries of Finance, Industry, and Forests and Environment — of contempt of court.

He claims that a provision in the new budget (Clause 87), which permits the export of minerals and river-based materials, goes against a Supreme Court order issued on April 20, 2022. That earlier order, which came after a previous petition by Tripathi, had banned the export of Nepal’s river materials to other countries.

The court has scheduled the first hearing of the case for Tuesday.
