Darjeeling Duo Badri and Durga Kharel to Perform at Paleti Again After 17 Years

KATHMANDU, JUNE 23 — The popular monthly music series Paleti, held on the last Friday of every English month at Nepalaya’s 'R' Sala in Kalikasthan, will welcome back renowned Darjeeling-based musical duo Badri and Durga Kharel after a 17-year break.

In a statement today, Nepalaya described Paleti as an intimate musical event that has been running for the past 20 years. This month’s edition will not only feature the duo’s classic hits but also new songs with lyrics by the well-known songwriter Dinesh Adhikari. These new pieces will be performed in collaboration with rising talent Abhigya Ghimire, symbolizing a connection between generations of musicians.

Badri and Durga Kharel are beloved figures in the Nepali music scene—not only in Darjeeling but also among Nepali-speaking communities around the world. Their song "Bolaun Bhane Timilai Baat Lagne Dar" remains a fan favorite.

Durga Kharel, who last performed at Paleti in 2008, expressed her happiness about returning, saying, “It brings us great joy to return to the musical home of our craft after such a long time.” Badri Kharel added, “When we first came to Paleti, we didn’t know what to expect. Now, after all these years, we’re coming back with the same excitement and hope to receive the same love from the audience.”

This special edition of Paleti will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 27 and 28, at Nepalaya’s 'R' Sala. Tickets are available online at www.paleti.com.np.
