Diamonds worth over Rs 20 million were seized in Kathmandu, and four Indian nationals have been arrested in connection with the case.

 KATHMANDU, JUNE 12 – Nepal Police arrested four Indian nationals in Kathmandu on Wednesday for illegally possessing and trying to smuggle diamonds worth over Rs 20.27 million. The arrests were made during a special operation in the Kalanki area of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-22.

The suspects have been identified as Haribor Sheikh (43), Tamol Sadhra (40), Surojeet Das (39), and a 16-year-old minor. All four are from Kolkata, India, and had been living in Kalanki.

According to police, Haribor Sheikh was running a jewellery store called Munna Jem and Jewellers in Pyukha Krishna Chowk. He was allegedly selling silver, gold, and diamond rings without issuing proper bills.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and the District Police Office raided the store around 6:30 PM on Wednesday and arrested the suspects.

During the raid, police seized several uncut diamonds of different sizes and grades, including J Color VS2, SI2, and IS1. They also confiscated gold and silver ornaments, diamond rings, invoices, a notebook, and an iPhone 15 Pro Max. The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 20,278,360.

The suspects, along with the recovered items, have been handed over to the Department of Revenue Investigation for further legal action.
