Disaster Response Center Established in Solukhumbu
Solukhumbu, June 25
For the first time, a joint disaster management post has been set up in Solukhumbu district to improve emergency response during the monsoon season. Located in Jorbouddha, Solududhkunda Municipality-6, the post is now up and running.
The post is manned by specially trained teams from the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force. An 11-member security team is on duty around the clock, according to Chief District Officer (CDO) Anoj Kumar Ghimire.
This setup ensures that rescue teams can be quickly deployed as soon as an emergency is reported. The post is specifically focused on the monsoon months—Asar, Saun, and Bhadau (mid-June to mid-September)—when the risk of floods and landslides is highest.
CDO Ghimire said the long-term goal is to make the post a permanent, well-equipped structure that can serve the entire district. Garma Bazar has been chosen as the main operating center because of its central location. The post has also started working directly with local disaster management committees to strengthen coordination and response across the district.
