Five Covid-19 Cases Detected at Teku Hospital in One Week; One Patient Hospitalized
"These patients came in with fever and other symptoms. Most of them had mild cases and were advised to isolate at home," said Dr. Basaula. However, one patient has been admitted to a private cabin for treatment after being referred from a private hospital in Kathmandu. His condition is said to be improving.
Nationwide, there are currently 16 active Covid-19 cases, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD). EDCD Director Dr. Chandra Bhal Jha noted that while cases in neighboring India have risen recently, the impact on Nepal has been minimal. A few border cases were reported earlier, but no new ones have emerged in the past few days.
Teku Hospital is still offering Covid-19 vaccinations through its emergency department to help prevent further spread.
Although large outbreaks are no longer occurring, health experts caution that Covid-19 hasn’t disappeared and continues to circulate in communities. Over the past five years, more than 12,000 people in Nepal have died from the virus.
Dr. Rajeev Shrestha, head of the Molecular and Genomic Sequencing Research Lab at Dhulikhel Hospital, said that Covid-19 has now become an ongoing health concern, much like the flu or measles.
“Covid-19 isn’t going away. It will continue to show up now and then,” he said. “With new variants still emerging, staying vaccinated is key to preventing serious illness.”
