Government to get Rs 50.51 billion low-interest loan from the World Bank

Kathmandu, June 18 – The government has decided to take a soft loan of Rs 50.51 billion from the World Bank to support infrastructure projects such as road and bridge construction. Out of this, around Rs 29.72 billion will be used to improve the strategic road network and trade routes. An additional grant of about Rs 20.79 billion will go towards the third phase of a bridge upgrade project.

Government spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, shared this update while announcing the latest Cabinet decisions. He also mentioned that Nepal will receive a grant of around Rs 1.8 billion from South Korea to carry out an inclusive rural development project in Bardiya district.

Among other decisions, the Cabinet approved Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's official visit to Spain from June 30 to July 5, where he will lead a Nepali delegation.

The government also decided to present a proposed agreement with the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding fisheries to the federal parliament for approval.

In administrative matters, several high-level officials were transferred. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Armed Police Force, Ganesh Bahadur Thadamagar, was promoted to Additional Inspector General (AIG).

A Nepali delegation will attend the 16th Nepal-India Bilateral Consultation Group meeting in Pune, India, on June 23–24.

The Cabinet also approved the use of 43.66 hectares of national forest land in Nawalparasi (East) for the construction of a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line under the Millennium Challenge Account Nepal (MCA-Nepal) project.
