Light rain expected from Wednesday; temperatures set to drop

Kathmandu, June 10 — Light rain is likely to start from Wednesday, which could bring some relief from the rising temperatures, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

Due to a lack of rain, temperatures have been climbing in many parts of the Tarai-Madhesh region and the Kathmandu Valley. Meteorologist Pratima Manandhar said that the western and central parts of the country are currently being affected by westerly and local winds, while monsoon air has started influencing parts of Koshi Province.

Though the monsoon is slowly moving in from the east, it hasn’t fully developed across the country yet, which is why the heatwave continues. Some areas in Koshi, Bagmati, and Lumbini Provinces did receive light showers today, Manandhar added.

She also said that light rain is expected in various places, including Kathmandu, starting Wednesday. As clouds build up and rain begins, temperatures are likely to drop gradually from midweek.

Today, Kathmandu Valley recorded a high of 30°C, while Bhairahawa, Dhangadhi, and Nepalgunj saw the hottest temperatures at 41°C.

The Department has predicted light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning in some parts of Koshi, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces, along with a few hilly areas in other provinces starting Wednesday. Rain in mountain regions may disrupt daily life, road travel, and flights.

Authorities have advised the public to stay alert and take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of weather-related hazards.
