Manmohan Technical University to start making ayurvedic medicine
Morang, June 24
Manmohan Technical University in Budhiganga Rural Municipality, Morang, has announced plans to start producing ayurvedic medicine to treat diabetes.
At a press conference on Monday, Vice Chancellor Dr. Subashshree Pokharel said the university is currently researching how locally grown medicinal herbs can be used to treat diabetes.
The university is conducting research on 10 different topics this academic year, with diabetes treatment and bacteriophage research as top priorities. Several of the research projects focus on ayurvedic medicine.
Dr. Pokharel also mentioned that the university is planning to introduce skill test programs for students from Grades 6 to 8, following the existing tests for students up to Grade 5. Currently, the university has 322 students enrolled in various bachelor’s and master’s level programs.
Established in 2076 BS by the Koshi Province government, Manmohan Technical University is the first technical university in the province. However, the university says it is struggling due to insufficient funding.
Dr. Pokharel pointed out that although the university requested a budget of Rs 370 million for the upcoming fiscal year, it was allocated only Rs 140 million—just 0.5% of the province’s total budget. He called the situation concerning.
