Kathmandu, June 29 – Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Ram Nath Adhikari has called for the use of scientific methods to boost paddy production in Nepal. Speaking at an event organized by the Department of Agriculture to mark the 22nd National Paddy Plantation Day on Sunday, he said improving agricultural productivity is essential for strengthening the national economy.

Minister Adhikari added that modernizing agriculture is one of the government’s main priorities. He mentioned that several programs have been introduced to support farmers and uplift the status of the agricultural profession.

Director General of the Department of Agriculture, Prakash Kumar Sanjel, also spoke at the event, saying that educating farmers about food security is a key part of ongoing agricultural reforms. He stressed the importance of rice in national food security and the need to promote rice varieties that can withstand climate change.

Government agencies like the Department of Agriculture, the Crop Development Directorate, and the Agricultural Biodiversity Conservation Centre are running exhibitions, awareness campaigns, and poster displays to spread information about rice farming.

Every year, the Department celebrates National Paddy Plantation Day on Asar 15 (mid-June to early July) with various public events to highlight the importance of rice cultivation in Nepal.
