Minister Chaurasiya said that judges are appointed according to the constitution and laws.

KATHMANDU, JUNE 23 — Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya clarified that judges must be appointed strictly according to the constitution and laws. He said it is not allowed to appoint judges outside these rules.

Answering questions from lawmakers during discussions on the budget bill, Minister Chaurasiya stressed that all steps have been taken to protect the reputation of the judiciary.

He also mentioned the need to study whether legal rules are needed to handle civil disputes through judicial committees, as the constitution allows for such committees under Article 217.

Additionally, Minister Chaurasiya said that one billion rupees, over and above the usual budget, has been set aside for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons. These commissions are responsible for investigating incidents related to armed conflict and helping victims with relief and compensation.

He added that the Supreme Court has modernized its system by digitizing services like filing cases, checking case information, and holding hearings through video calls, to make justice faster and more efficient.
