Monsoon Arrives in Lumbini; Heavy Rain Expected in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki
KATHMANDU, JUNE 13 – The monsoon has now arrived in Lumbini Province and some areas of Gandaki Province, showing that it’s gradually moving across eastern and central Nepal. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), this will likely bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to several regions.
In its latest update on Thursday evening, the DHM said that the monsoon has already covered the remaining parts of Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati Provinces, as well as parts of Gandaki and eastern Lumbini. This year, the monsoon began on May 29, which is about four days later than usual.
It will still take a few more days for the monsoon to reach the rest of the country, especially the western regions.
Weather Forecast for Today
Heavy rain is expected this afternoon in a few spots in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces.
These areas may also see light to moderate rain, thunder, and lightning in several places.
People living in areas prone to floods and landslides should stay alert.
Kathmandu Valley Forecast
The sky will be partly to mostly cloudy.
There’s a 60% chance of rain or a thunderstorm in the afternoon, dropping to 40% overnight.
Tonight’s Weather
Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected in parts of Madhesh, Gandaki, and Sudurpashchim Provinces, and in some hilly areas.
Light rain or snowfall is also possible in high hills and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki, and in a few other spots.
The weather is being affected by monsoon winds in the east and center of the country, and by westerly and local winds in the west. These patterns will continue shaping Nepal’s weather over the coming days.
