National Music and Drama Festival Happening on June 13

 Kathmandu, June 10

The Nepal Academy of Music and Drama is set to host the National Music and Drama Festival 2082 on June 13 in Kathmandu.

At a press conference held on Monday, the Academy announced that the festival will showcase traditional and original songs, music, dance, and drama from all seven provinces of Nepal, aiming to promote cultural exchange and preserve local heritage.

Academy Chancellor Nisha Sharma said the event will feature diverse performances reflecting Nepal’s rich folk traditions. “Well-known and up-and-coming artists from across the country will come together to celebrate and revive our musical and theatrical roots,” she said.

Shambhu Rai, Vice-Chancellor of the Academy and event coordinator, added that music, drama, and literature experts, along with senior artists and students, will take part. He emphasized that the festival is part of a broader strategy to preserve endangered folk traditions, especially those of marginalized communities.

Kushma Mahara, the Academy’s Member-Secretary, shared that the festival will include performances like Dhol dance, Bhojpuri songs, Nisse dance, Jhamre, Laske, Deuda, Chhaliya dance, and Tappa songs, highlighting the country’s cultural diversity.
