Nepal and France hold fifth round of bilateral talks in Kathmandu
Kathmandu, June 22 — Nepal and France held the fifth round of their Bilateral Consultation Mechanism (BCM) meeting in Kathmandu on June 19, continuing their regular diplomatic dialogue.
Nepal’s team was led by Ganesh Prasad Dhakal, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with officials from various government ministries. The French delegation was headed by Benoît Guidée, Director for Asia and Oceania at the French Foreign Ministry. French Ambassador to Nepal, Virginie Corteval, along with her deputy Elsa Calley and desk officer Hélène Schinkel, were also part of the team.
The meeting reviewed ongoing cooperation and looked at new opportunities for collaboration—especially in light of the 75th anniversary of the first successful ascent of Annapurna by French climbers Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal.
Key topics included trade, science and technology, education, culture, and climate action. Both countries showed interest in working more closely on renewable energy and disaster preparedness, especially through early warning systems. They also discussed regional and global issues, reaffirming their shared support for multilateralism.
The sixth BCM meeting will take place in Paris at a date yet to be decided.
