Nepal and Saudi Arabia have come to an agreement that will make it easier for Nepali workers to find jobs in Saudi Arabia.

KATHMANDU, JUNE 10 – Nepal and Saudi Arabia have reached an important agreement on labor cooperation. On Tuesday, during a sideline meeting, Nepal’s Labour Minister Sharat Singh Bhandari and Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Tariq Al Hamad signed a deal that will allow Nepali workers to go to Saudi Arabia for employment.

According to Minister Bhandari’s office, Saudi Arabia has also agreed to quickly move forward with two additional agreements—one for certifying skills of general workers and another for skilled workers—while continuing with the existing domestic worker agreement.

Nepal has already approved a draft agreement for sending general workers. Minister Bhandari explained that while the formal signing hasn’t happened yet, both sides have agreed in principle. Originally, Saudi Arabia wanted to sign the general worker agreement only after the domestic worker agreement was finalized. However, in this latest meeting, they agreed to go ahead with the general worker deal and continue discussions on the domestic worker agreement separately.

Bhandari also mentioned that Nepal’s parliamentary committee had issued instructions to prioritize the bilateral labor agreement before finalizing the domestic worker deal. He added that a pilot project may be launched to help move things forward.
