PM Oli Calls for Major Reforms to Promote Skills-Based Education

Speaking at the 99th Senate meeting of Kathmandu University, held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, PM Oli—who also serves as the university's Chancellor—urged educators to create opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship within the education system. He also praised the university’s efforts in this direction.
Highlighting the importance of expanding access to medical and other fields of education, the Prime Minister encouraged the university to ensure fair distribution of scholarship opportunities.
Education Minister and University Pro-Chancellor Raghuji Panta echoed the Prime Minister’s call for educational reform and transformation, urging the university to act on those priorities.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Achyut Prasad Wagle shared that Kathmandu University is focused on implementing a research-based education system and is actively working to improve the quality of education.
During the session, the Senate approved the graduation list for 1,129 students, including 118 international students, as part of the second phase of the university's 30th Convocation, scheduled for June 13 in Dhulikhel. The Senate also passed the university's budget of NPR 4.38 billion for the upcoming fiscal year, presented by Registrar Prof. Dr. Rajib Shrestha.
The Senate appointed several new members, including Prof. Dr. Dibya Singh, Dr. Rita Thapa, Prof. Dr. Dhruba Kumar Gautam, psychologist Anant Prasad Adhikari, and Dr. Bikash Adhikari, representing various professional backgrounds.
Additionally, the Senate approved a report and draft agreement to enhance future collaboration between Kathmandu University and Dhulikhel Hospital.
At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Oli officially launched the first and second volumes of the book "Kathmandu University: First 25 Years", written by the university’s founding registrar, Dr. Sitaram Adhikari.
