PM Oli urges everyone to make yoga part of their daily routine.

LALITPUR, JUNE 21 – Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged everyone to make yoga a regular part of their daily routine, saying it reflects the many dimensions of human life. Speaking at an event organized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to mark the 11th International Yoga Day in Patan, held under the theme "Yoga for One Earth, One Health," PM Oli highlighted yoga’s deep connection to peace, humanity, and overall well-being.

“Yoga promotes a healthy, happy life and supports the vision of a happy Nepali and a prosperous nation,” he said, emphasizing that discipline is a core element of yoga. Oli also expressed concern over a decline in social discipline in Nepal, warning that without discipline, true meditation isn't possible. “Yoga with good intentions and clear thinking is what we need right now,” he added.

He noted that efforts are being made to integrate yoga into everyday life, pointing out that good health depends not only on yoga but also on a balanced diet and proper rest. “We need to eat clean, pesticide-free food not just to satisfy hunger, but to stay healthy. It’s time we focus on preventing illness instead of relying on doctors after falling sick,” he said.

Recalling his own health challenges, Oli mentioned his time in prison, where he was given only tranquilizers, which led to kidney failure. He reminded people that while meditation is valuable, it cannot replace medical treatment when surgery is needed. “Yoga is important, but so is hard work,” he stated.

Oli also connected yoga with Nepal’s rich cultural and spiritual traditions, noting that Lord Shiva is considered the originator of yoga—referred to as Adiyogi. He shared mythological stories, such as Rishi Bishwamitra’s contributions to early medical science and how his grandson Charak is considered the founder of Ayurveda.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the need for peace in the world, saying, “Non-violence and pure thoughts are more important than ever. Violent and arrogant individuals must understand this for peace to prevail.”

Minister for Education, Science and Technology Rajhuji Panta said yoga should be promoted as a part of Nepal’s cultural heritage, noting that Nepal is the birthplace of yoga and meditation. Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, echoed this sentiment, saying yoga not only promotes good health but also reflects Nepal’s identity. He added that Nepal is becoming a global destination for yoga.

Yoga guru and professor Dr. Dipak Regmi spoke at the event as well, stating that yoga is evolving with a scientific approach. He emphasized that yoga is a path to health, peace, and happiness.

The event was attended by government officials, yoga teachers, practitioners, and representatives from yoga-related organizations.
