Police in Sunsari have confiscated 240 kilograms of marijuana hidden in a truck and arrested three individuals involved in the smuggling.

 Kathmandu, June 17 – Police in Sunsari have seized 240 kilograms of marijuana and arrested three people on drug smuggling charges this morning.


Acting on a tip-off, a police team from the Area Police Office in Itahari stopped a suspicious white mini-truck (Na. 6 Kha 6116) near a forest area along the Koshi Highway in Tarahara, Itahari-20, around 9:30 am.


Upon checking the vehicle, police found the marijuana hidden under 48 sacks of cabbage and 12 sacks of potatoes.


The arrested include the truck driver, 32-year-old Rajendra Rai from Shahidbhumi-6, Dhankuta; a passenger, 33-year-old Sunil Rai from the same area; and 34-year-old Suman Rai from Barahakshetra-9, Sunsari, who was acting suspiciously near the location.


All three, along with the truck and the drugs, have been taken to the Area Police Office in Itahari for further investigation, police said.
