Police suspect a case of murder followed by suicide in Budhanilkantha after discovering three bottles of poison at the scene where a man and a woman were found dead. Investigators believe the man may have killed the woman before taking his own life. A detailed investigation is underway.

Kathmandu, June 16 —

Police are looking into a suspected case of murder and suicide after a man and a woman were found dead in a rented house in Pasikot, Budhanilkantha Municipality-4.

The victims have been identified as 28-year-old Anjana Tamang from Dhading’s Galchi Rural Municipality-6, and 54-year-old Permanarayan Gill, an Indian citizen from Chandigarh. Gill, a photographer, had been living in the house for about a year and a half and ran a small photography business from there.

According to police, Anjana worked at Gill’s residence and lived in Kathmandu with her two daughters. When she didn’t return home on Friday evening and couldn’t be reached by phone, her worried family went to check on her. Around 6 p.m., they reached the house where she worked. Although the lights were on, no one answered the door, so they informed the police.

Officers from Maharajgunj Police Circle and Budhanilkantha Police Post arrived, forced open the door (which was locked from the inside), and found both bodies—Anjana’s on the sofa and Gill’s on the floor of a second-floor room.

Initial findings suggest Gill may have killed Anjana before taking his own life by ingesting poison. Police found three pesticide bottles in the room—two empty and one partly full. Anjana had a blunt injury on the right side of her head, possibly caused by a hammer-like object, indicating she was attacked while sitting.

There was no sign of forced entry. CCTV footage didn’t show any suspicious activity, and a key to the door was found in Gill’s pocket. Police believe he may have locked the house from the outside and entered through another door or window.

One of the four dogs Gill kept was also found dead, apparently killed by blunt force.

Both Anjana and Gill were married. Gill’s wife lives in France, while Anjana’s husband had left for work in the Gulf just three days before the incident. Investigators suspect the two may have been in an extramarital relationship that ended in tragedy.

Post-mortem examinations are being carried out at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, and police are continuing their investigation.
