Production sector tops gainers as Nepal stock market posts slight rise, turnover drops

Kathmandu, June 15 – The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index edged up by 0.47 points on Sunday, closing at 2,655 points, even as overall trading volume dipped compared to the previous session.

Total turnover for the day was Rs 11.44 billion, down from Rs 12.51 billion on the last trading day. Despite the lower volume, market sentiment remained mostly positive.

Out of all listed companies, 90 saw their share prices rise, while 157 declined. The hydropower sector continued to draw investor interest, gaining 0.96% after last week's strong 5.53% surge, making it one of the day’s top performers.

The production sector posted the biggest gain of the day at 1.47%, followed by trade (1.08%), development banks (0.48%), and non-life insurance (0.07%).

On the flip side, several sectors closed in the red:

Banking fell by 0.44%

Finance dropped 0.59%

Investment declined 0.76%

Life insurance slid 0.54%

Microfinance went down 0.31%

Hotels and tourism edged down 0.06%

Others group decreased 0.46%

Three companies hit the daily upper circuit limit with a 10% gain: Pure Energy, Green Development Bank, and Chhyangdi Hydropower. Barun Hydropower and Union Hydropower also saw strong gains of 9.84% and 9.34%, respectively.

The five most actively traded companies were Sanima Mai Hydropower, Ngadi Group Power, Butwal Power Company, Radhi Bidyut, and Mountain Energy.
