Remittance inflows up by 13.2% in first 10 months of fiscal year 2024/25

Remittance inflows to Nepal grew by 13.2% in the first ten months of the current fiscal year (2024/25), reaching a total of Rs. 1,356.61 billion, according to a new report from Nepal Rastra Bank. This growth is slower than the 16.9% rise seen during the same period last year.


In terms of US dollars, Nepal received $9.96 billion in remittances—an increase of 10.5%, down from last year’s 14.8% growth.


During the month from mid-April to mid-May 2025 (Baisakh 2082), monthly remittance inflows hit Rs. 165.30 billion, up from Rs. 115.99 billion in the same month last year.


Net secondary income (which includes remittances and other transfers) also increased to Rs. 1,479.08 billion, compared to Rs. 1,301.75 billion last year.


Foreign employment also saw a rise. A total of 405,610 Nepalis received approval for foreign employment for the first time, while 280,314 got approval to return to their jobs abroad. These numbers are up from 373,307 and 236,398, respectively, in the same period last year.
