RSP lawmakers protest with blue ribbons over visit visa scandal
Kathmandu, June 17
Lawmakers from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) wore blue ribbons to Parliament today as a form of protest, demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak over the visit visa scandal.
The blue ribbon, which is also a symbol of the global fight against human trafficking, was used by the RSP to draw attention to the issue. RSP lawmaker Manish Jha said, “The blue ribbon is recognized worldwide as a symbol against human trafficking.”
Blue is also the official color of the RSP, which promotes what it calls a “blue revolution.”
Despite the protest, Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire continued with regular House proceedings on Sunday and Monday, and today's session was expected to go ahead as planned. However, it had not begun as scheduled by 1 pm, with discussions among parliamentary leaders still ongoing.Kathmandu, June 17
