A group of Nepali experts and international guests took a special mountain flight on Sunday morning to see the Himalayan mountains, including Mount Everest.
The group had 24 foreign visitors who enjoyed beautiful aerial views of famous peaks like Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Shishapangma, Ama Dablam, Gaurishankar, Makalu, and Langtang.
The flight was led by Minister for Forests and Environment, Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri. It was organized to give the international guests a chance to see how climate change is affecting Nepal’s mountains.
These guests are in Nepal for the “Sagarmatha Sambaad,” an international conference about climate change, the Himalayas, and the future of humanity.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Nepal Tourism Board arranged the flight, which lasted about an hour. Under clear blue skies, the visitors saw the shiny, snow-covered peaks glowing in the sunlight.
Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board, said the flight was meant to promote Nepal as an adventure travel destination and to raise awareness about environmental problems.
Over 350 important guests from Nepal and other countries are attending the Sagarmatha Sambaad, the first international event of its kind focused on “Climate Change, the Himalayas, and the Future of Humanity.”
Minister Shahi said Nepal’s mountains are clearly showing the effects of climate change. “In the past, the mountains were always covered with white snow. Now, we are seeing black, bare mountain slopes where snow has melted,” he explained.
