Supreme Court orders to keep Ride Sharing regulations active, no suspension allowed.
Kaski, June 25
The Supreme Court has told the Gandaki Provincial Government not to pause the enforcement of the new Ride Sharing rules. This came after someone filed a petition against the government's decision to stop applying the rules. The court ordered the government to keep the rules in place for at least one more month.
The order was given by a two-judge panel on Tuesday.
Because of this, the Ride Sharing rules can now continue to be enforced in Gandaki Province, said Chiranjivi Sharma, the province’s Chief Attorney. These rules, called the Ride Sharing (Regulation and Management) Regulations-2082, were introduced by the provincial government and officially published on May 13.
However, the Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs opposed the rules and organized a nationwide public transport strike. After that, the Office of the Prime Minister asked the Gandaki government to suspend the rules.
Following this, the provincial government decided on June 3 to suspend the regulations for one month. But now, the Supreme Court has stopped that suspension.
