Supreme Court tells police to investigate former Speaker Agni Sapkota

Kathmandu, June 5 — The Supreme Court has directed the police to investigate a murder case filed against former Speaker Agni Sapkota.

A full bench of the court, including Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut and Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla, Kumar Regmi, Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma, and Dr Kumar Chudal, overturned an earlier police decision to close the case.

The court's website noted that a writ had been issued, though no further information was provided.

The case was filed by Purnimaya Lama of Kavre, who accused Sapkota of being involved in the murder of her husband, Arjun Lama. Police had previously decided not to pursue the case, leading her to seek justice through the Supreme Court.

As a result of the court’s ruling, Kavre District Police Office must now reopen and continue the investigation.
