T20 Tri-Series: Nepal lose to Scotland by 34 runs

 Kathmandu, June 21

Nepal lost to Scotland by 34 runs in the final match of the Tri-Nation T20I Series after a poor showing by their top-order batters. Chasing a challenging target of 194, Nepal were all out for 159 runs in 18.5 overs on Friday.

Rupesh Singh fought back with an unbeaten 43 off 22 balls, while Dipendra Singh Airee scored 34 and captain Rohit Paudel added 27. But Nepal’s batting lineup struggled early on. They lost opener Kushal Bhurtel for just 4 runs in the first over and were 43 for 4 by the end of the powerplay. Bhim Sharki (12), Aasif Sheikh (14), and Aarif Sheikh (5) also fell cheaply.

Although Airee and Paudel tried to rebuild with a short partnership, they couldn't keep the momentum going.

For Scotland, Chris Greaves was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 27 runs. Safyaan Sharif claimed two, while Mark Watt, Michael Leask, and Brandon McMullen took one wicket each.

Earlier, Scotland had set a strong target of 194 runs, finishing on 193 for 5 in their 20 overs. George Munsey led the charge with a powerful 78 off 39 balls, smashing five fours and six sixes. He was named Player of the Match. Brandon McMullen added 42 runs, while Leask and Matthew Cross remained unbeaten with 26 and 17 runs respectively.

Munsey and McMullen shared a 100-run partnership for the second wicket, taking Scotland from 34 for 1 to 134 for 2. Though Nepal briefly fought back by taking three quick wickets, a late 48-run stand between Leask and Cross helped Scotland finish strong.

Among Nepal’s bowlers, Kushal Bhurtel performed well, taking 2 wickets for 20 runs in 2 overs. Sandeep Lamichhane, Lalit Rajbanshi, and Rupesh Singh took one wicket each.

With this win, Scotland topped the series table based on net run rate, as all three teams—Nepal, Scotland, and the Netherlands—had two wins each. Nepal finished in second place.

After the match, Nepal’s captain Rohit Paudel said, “It has been a great series for us. Of course, we wanted to end with a win, but it wasn’t our day.”

Scottish captain Richie Berrington added, “It’s been a great series for us, especially as we prepare for the upcoming qualifiers.”
