23,000 tourists visited Dhorpatan in one year.

 Galkot (Baglung), July 28

The number of visitors to Dhorpatan, Nepal’s only hunting reserve, is steadily increasing every year. According to the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve Office in Baglung, the reserve saw 23,692 tourists in the fiscal year 2081/82—up from 15,573 the previous year, marking an increase of more than 8,000 visitors.

Ranger Sagar Subedi said that of the total visitors, 213 were from countries outside South Asia, 12 were from SAARC nations, and the rest were domestic tourists. He attributed the rise in numbers to better tourism promotion and improved infrastructure in the area. He also mentioned that the growing tourist numbers have led to increased revenue, with over Rs 2 million collected in entry fees last fiscal year. Nepali visitors pay Rs 100 each to enter the reserve.

Subedi noted that popular trekking trails and scenic spots have helped draw more domestic tourists, while international visitors mostly come for hunting. Nepali tourists, on the other hand, explore sites like Dhorpatan Valley, Niseldhor, Dhorbarah Temple, Bukipatan, and Jaljala.

Ram Bahadur Gharti, who runs the Dhorpatan Community Homestay, said that around 24 hotels and homestays are now serving visitors in the Dhorpatan Valley. Tourists can also book travel packages, making it easier to visit the region.
