A trail that lets visitors experience the climates of the Tarai, Hill, and Mountain regions is being developed.

Khotang, May 15 — The Maiyung Tyamke Salpa Silichung Tourism Promotion Centre has created the ‘Greater Mundum Trail,’ a new trekking route designed to connect the Eastern Tarai’s Khuwalung area to the base camp of Mount Everest through the hills and mountains.

According to the Centre’s Chairman, Ramesh Kumar Rai, the trail is divided into three parts: the Lower Mundum Trail from Khuwalung (Chataradhama) to Tawa Bhanjyang in Khotang, the Mundum Trail from Tawa Bhanjyang to Salpa Silichung in Bhojpur, and the Upper Mundum Trail from Chheskam in Solukhumbu to Mount Everest.

The trail covers three different climate zones — the Tarai plains, the hills, and the mountains. The goal is to create Nepal’s first tourist trail specifically designed to attract international visitors.

The route and accommodations have been carefully planned based on explorations done by the Centre in partnership with Mahakulung Rural Municipality in Solukhumbu.

Travelers on the Greater Mundum Trail can enjoy a wide range of natural beauty and geography — from the warm winds of the flat Tarai plains to the snowy peaks of the Himalayas. Along the way, visitors can see wildlife like wild buffalo in Koshi Tappu and other animals in the hills and mountain regions.
