All Four Gates of Pashupatinath Temple Open to Devotees
Kathmandu, July 21 — On the first Monday of the holy month of Sawan, all four gates of the Pashupatinath Temple were opened as early as 3 a.m. to welcome thousands of devotees.
Arun Biset, a representative from the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT), said that special preparations had been made to manage the large crowd, expecting nearly 500,000 worshippers today. Mondays during Sawan are especially important for Hindus, who fast and offer prayers to Lord Shiva with devotion.
According to Biset, devotees began arriving at the temple from the early morning hours. The PADT has announced that special puja tickets will cost at least Rs 7,500 and will not be available below that price during Sawan.
In a gesture of service, the Marwari Samaj is providing free meals to devotees at Pashupatinath every Monday throughout the month. To ease travel, the PADT has also arranged free bus services along the Ring Road every Monday for pilgrims heading to the temple.
