Birgunj Customs Logs Rs 565.42 Billion in Imports, with India Making Up Over 76%

 Kathmandu, July 1 —

Goods worth over Rs 565 billion were imported through the Birgunj customs office in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year 2024/25, according to data from the Birgunj Customs Office.

Of the total imports, Rs 434.26 billion — or nearly 77% — came from India, confirming India’s position as Nepal’s largest trade partner through this key customs point. Argentina was the second-biggest source of imports with goods worth Rs 46.74 billion (8.27%), followed by China with Rs 28.86 billion (1.22%).

During the same period, Nepal exported goods worth Rs 91.51 billion through Birgunj. Exports to India made up the vast majority — Rs 86.97 billion, or 95% of the total. The United States was the second-largest destination for exports with Rs 2.18 billion (2.38%), while exports to Afghanistan stood at Rs 680 million.
