Doctors Suspend Services at Malangwa Hospital After Attack on Colleague

Sarlahi, July 23 – Doctors at the Provincial Hospital in Malangwa have stopped all services except for emergency care after one of their colleagues was assaulted while on duty.

The incident happened on Monday night when orthopedic specialist Dr. Krishna Jung Sah was attending to patients in the emergency ward. According to hospital officials, the relatives of a patient—without any provocation—began verbally abusing him and then physically attacked him. The entire incident was caught on CCTV.

Dr. Sah has filed a formal complaint with the District Administration Office and the District Police Office but says no serious action has been taken yet. In response, the hospital staff have suspended services including outpatient (OPD), laboratory, and radiology departments in protest.

“We demand immediate legal action against those responsible,” said hospital superintendent Dr. Sanjeev Singh.

The patient involved in the case was 40-year-old Renu Devi, who had been diagnosed with a fractured shoulder blade. Among the attackers were reportedly self-proclaimed journalist Satya Prakash Yadav and Radheshyam Yadav.

Dr. Sah, who had previously worked at Bir Hospital’s trauma center, had returned to Malangwa to serve his hometown. He expressed deep disappointment over the incident. “I came back to serve my community, but this kind of violence makes doctors hesitant to work in rural areas,” he said. “This attack has shattered my confidence. We will continue our protest until justice is served.”

Both the hospital administration and the Nepal Medical Association have released statements condemning the attack and calling for strong legal action. Dr. Sah noted that the assault not only endangered his life but also disrupted vital emergency services, putting other patients at risk.
