Elderly Woman Dies of COVID-19 in Pokhara
Pokhara, July 21 – A 70-year-old woman has died from COVID-19 in Pokhara, marking the first confirmed COVID-related death in Gandaki Province in more than two and a half years.
According to Khim Bahadur Khadka, Director General of the Gandaki Province Health Directorate, the woman was being treated at Charak Hospital for respiratory problems and tested positive for COVID-19 on July 9 (Asar 25). She passed away on July 19 (Shrawan 4). She also had underlying health conditions, including high blood pressure and diabetes, which made her condition worse.
Her COVID-19 diagnosis was confirmed through a PCR test at the Gandaki Public Health Laboratory.
Health officials have reported a recent rise in COVID-19 cases in the province. The latest figures show five new cases in Kaski, two in Baglung, and one in Syangja, bringing the total to eight active cases.
“Tests are being conducted at several hospitals including the Provincial Public Health Laboratory, Western Regional Hospital, and Dhaulagiri Hospital,” said Khadka in an interview with Onlinekhabar. “Even patients with mild symptoms are testing positive.”
This is the first COVID-related fatality in Gandaki since the last major wave of infections subsided over two and a half years ago.
