Four Nepali swimmers set to compete in World Aquatics Championships
Kathmandu, July 27
Four swimmers from Nepal will represent the country at the World Aquatics Championships currently taking place in Singapore. A six-member team, including the four athletes, will depart for Singapore this Friday.
The team includes two male and two female swimmers. Irvin Shrestha will compete in the 100m and 200m freestyle, while Ajalkaji Tamrakar will participate in the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly events.
Among the female swimmers, Olympian Duwana Lama will swim in the 200m freestyle and 100m breaststroke, and Arya Maharjan will take part in the 50m and 100m freestyle.
The team will be coached by Shankar Karki, with Bikash Sharma serving as team manager.
The World Aquatics Championships began on July 11 and will run through August 3. Nepali swimmers are scheduled to start competing from July 27, according to Gangalal Gole, Secretary of the Nepal Swimming Association.
Head coach Karki said the event would be a valuable experience for the swimmers as they prepare for the upcoming 20th Asian Games, and he expressed hope for strong performances from the athletes.
