Heavy rain expected in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces
Kathmandu, July 29 — The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in many parts of the country today, especially in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces.
The weather will remain mostly cloudy throughout Nepal, with moderate rain, thunder, and lightning likely in several areas of the three provinces and some parts of the Terai. One or two hilly locations could see heavy downpours, increasing the risk of waterlogging and landslides in vulnerable areas.
Tonight, Lumbini Province and the hilly regions are expected to stay mostly cloudy, while other areas will be partly cloudy. Moderate rain with thunder and lightning may occur in parts of Lumbini and some hilly and Terai regions.
Meteorologists say the rainfall is due to an active monsoon system across the country, with the monsoon trough lying around its normal position in the west and slightly north in the east.
In Kathmandu Valley, the afternoon will be generally cloudy with chances of rain and thunderstorms. Temperatures will range between 26°C and 28°C, with a 40% chance of rain. The night is expected to be partly cloudy with brief showers and temperatures between 19°C and 21°C.
Authorities have urged people in hilly areas to stay alert for possible landslides and flash floods due to the risk of heavy rainfall in some spots.
