IRGDD and NCC sign deal to strengthen Nepal’s economy through economic diplomacy

 Kathmandu, July 1

The International Relations and Global Diplomacy Dialogue (IRGDD) and the Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) have signed an agreement to promote Nepal's economy through economic diplomacy.

The agreement was signed on July 1 during the NCC's Diamond Jubilee event in Kathmandu, celebrating 75 years of its support to Nepal’s private sector. IRGDD President Ambassador Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal and NCC President Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal signed the MoU in the presence of officials and guests from both organizations.

According to a press release, the partnership aims to strengthen Nepal’s international economic presence by working together on trade diplomacy, diaspora engagement, research, policy advocacy, and international promotion of Nepali products and services.

Dr. Dhakal said that Nepal’s development depends on a strong economy and that economic diplomacy should be a key part of the country’s international strategy. She introduced the term “Eco-politics”, suggesting that economic priorities are now shaping global political agendas. She also stressed the need to improve the quality and branding of Nepali products to meet global standards.

NCC President Agrawal highlighted Nepal’s potential in tourism, hydropower, IT, and natural resources. He noted that Nepal is already part of the global economy and called for more active international engagement.

The MoU outlines a five-year cooperation plan, including the formation of a Joint Coordination Committee and a progress review within six months. The goal is to strengthen Nepal’s position in global trade and investment through collaboration between diplomats and the private sector.

The event also included the exchange of publications — The Diplomat Nepal and an NCC journal — and a visit to the Raj Bahadur Memorial Hall to honor the legacy of NCC’s founding.
