Japan gives a scholarship grant of ¥572 million to help Nepali government officials study abroad.

KATHMANDU, JULY 9 — The Government of Japan is giving Nepal a grant of about 572 million yen (around 541 million Nepali rupees) to support the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS). This agreement was signed on Tuesday between Japan’s Ambassador to Nepal, Maeda Toru, and Ghanshyam Upadhyaya, Secretary at Nepal’s Ministry of Finance, according to a statement from the Japanese Embassy in Kathmandu.

The JDS program offers scholarships to young government officials in Nepal, allowing them to study for two-year master’s degrees or three-year PhD courses at top universities in Japan. Since it started, 187 Nepali civil servants have benefited from this program. This year, 22 more officials who passed the selection process will begin their studies in Japan this August.

The Japanese Embassy said that graduates of the JDS program have been playing important roles in Nepal’s development by taking leadership positions in the government and helping strengthen ties between Nepal and Japan.

At the signing ceremony, Ambassador Maeda said he was happy with the success of the JDS program in Nepal. He added that the program has helped improve the skills of government officials and boosted cooperation between the two countries. He also expressed hope that this new grant will continue to support Nepal’s development.
