Jeep safaris in Chitwan National Park suspended starting today
Chitwan, June 30 – Jeep safaris inside Chitwan National Park have been suspended starting today because of the monsoon rains and wildlife breeding season. Every year, the park closes its jungle safaris during the heaviest rains, reopening around mid‑September when the festivals begin. If the monsoon drags on, the reopening date is pushed back accordingly.
According to CNP Information Officer Avinash Thapamagar, the park’s roads often wash out or become muddy and slippery during the rains, and thick vegetation makes wildlife harder to spot. Once the monsoon ends and the roads are repaired, jeep safaris will resume inside the park.
In the meantime, jeep tours will still be available in the community forests around the park’s buffer zone. Trekking in the reserve and visits to the crocodile breeding centre will continue as usual. Currently, 32 safari jeeps operate from Sauraha, 10 from Kasara, seven from Meghauli, and five from Amaltari.
