More than 37,500 foreign tourists visited Manang in one year
Manang, July 23 —
The number of foreign tourists visiting Manang has been rising steadily each year. According to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Area Office, a total of 37,733 foreign tourists visited Manang district during the fiscal year 2024/25.
Data from the Dharapani Tourist Check Point shows that 2,554 tourists came from SAARC countries, while 35,178 were from other parts of the world.
Dhak Bahadur Bhujel, Chief of the ACAP Office in Manang, said visitors came from 134 countries, with Israel topping the list with 4,358 tourists, followed by France (3,616) and Germany (2,842).
In the previous fiscal year (2023/24), 22,371 tourists from 124 countries visited Manang, with the highest number from France. Locals, who rely heavily on agriculture and tourism, say the rising number of tourists has boosted the district’s economy and supported national growth as well.
One of the major attractions for international visitors is the Annapurna trekking route, considered the 10th most dangerous trekking trail in the world, which passes through Manang. The district’s natural beauty and rich heritage also continue to draw tourists.
Bhupendra Gurung, a Conservation Education Assistant at ACAP, noted that domestic tourist numbers are also growing. However, he expressed concern over increasing climate change impacts and unpredictable weather in the region, which could threaten the future growth of tourism and local livelihoods.
