NC President Deuba says Constitution can be amended if needed
Kathmandu, July 26 — Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the Constitution can be amended if needed. Speaking at a talk programme on "Federal Democratic Republic and the Current Constitution" held in Kathmandu on Friday, Deuba said that since the Constitution is based on the principles of pluralism, it can be changed over time according to public demands.
He noted that there are growing calls from various sectors for constitutional amendments, including proposals to change the role of the Vice President.
Deuba also commented on Nepal's political alliances, saying that while communist parties may act differently during elections, they often cooperate with democratic forces at other times.
During the event, Deuba praised the late Dhundiraj Shastri for his significant contributions to the Nepali Congress and democracy. Other party leaders, including Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Bimalendra Nidhi, and Arjun Narsingh KC, also paid tribute to Shastri, highlighting his role in strengthening the party, advancing the democratic movement, and promoting social change.
