Kathmandu, July 6 – Nepal’s journey to the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 came to an end on Saturday night after a heartbreaking penalty shootout loss to Uzbekistan in the final qualifying match in Tashkent.
The game ended in a 3-3 draw during regular time, with all three goals for Nepal scored by captain Sabitra Bhandari, also known as 'Samba'. In the penalty shootout, Nepal lost 4-2. Gita Rana and Sabita Rana Magar scored their penalties, but Samba and goalkeeper Anjana Rana Magar missed theirs.
With this win, Uzbekistan has secured a spot in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup for the first time in history.
