Nepal’s politics is based on BP Koirala’s policy of national unity and reconciliation, says NC President Deuba.

 Kathmandu, July 22

Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said that Nepal’s politics is built on the foundation of the national reconciliation policy introduced by BP Koirala.

Speaking at a program held on the occasion of the 43rd BP Memorial Day, Deuba highlighted BP Koirala’s continued relevance in Nepal’s political landscape. The event was jointly organized by BP Memorial Hospital, BP Memorial Foundation, and the Nepali Congress Sports Department.

Deuba praised BP Koirala, the founder of the Nepali Congress and Nepal’s first elected Prime Minister, for dedicating his life to democracy and the nation. He said BP believed that Nepal could only become sovereign and prosperous through a strong Nepali Congress and unity among national forces.

He added that BP prioritized national unity, prosperity, and social harmony over personal political gains. Deuba also described BP Koirala as not just a great political leader, but also a respected writer and a thinker of democratic socialism.

According to Deuba, BP’s political and literary ideas still serve as guiding principles for building a modern Nepal. BP strongly believed that democracy must go hand in hand with economic equality.

He also recalled how BP returned to Nepal from exile in India to fight against the Panchayat system, even as nationalism was weakening. Deuba credited BP’s values and sacrifices as the foundation of today’s Nepali Congress.
