Pakistan Embassy organizes poetry event in Kathmandu
Kathmandu, July 23 – The Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu, in collaboration with Nepal's Sahitya Academy, organized a poetry symposium titled "Aalmi Mushaira: Urdu, Shaairi Ki Zubaan" at Hotel Aloft on Tuesday. The event aimed to celebrate the shared literary heritage between Nepal and Pakistan and to strengthen cultural ties.
The program was attended by parliamentarians Siraj Ahmed Farooqi (CPN-UML) and Kalpana Miya (CPN-MC), along with other guests including politicians, intellectuals, social activists, and officials from the Pakistan Embassy.
Renowned Urdu poets such as Dr. Zafar Eleeg, Dr. Saqib Harooni (President of Sahitya Academy, Nepal), Dr. Afzal Manglori, Furqan Faizi, Musharaf Ali Khan, Zahid Azad Jhanda Nagri, Ghalib Dareeb, Altaf Farifta, and Ms. Sapna Ahsaas recited their poems, receiving much appreciation from the audience.
Guests praised Pakistan’s efforts to promote culture and literature in Nepal, particularly the role of the Embassy in fostering artistic exchanges. Noted Nepali filmmaker and writer Prakash Sayami highlighted the richness and universal appeal of Urdu poetry during his remarks.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Nepal, Abrar H. Hashmi, thanked the Sahitya Academy and the participating poets for their contributions. He emphasized the importance of stronger literary cooperation between Nepal and Pakistan, including cultural exchanges and the promotion of languages like Urdu and Nepali.
