Proton Expands Its Presence in Nepal with New Showroom in Pokhara

Kathmandu, July 30

Proton Nepal has officially opened a new showroom in Pokhara as part of its push to promote electric vehicles (EVs) across the country. Located at Buddha Chowk, the showroom offers customers a hands-on experience with Proton’s flagship electric car, the Proton e.MAS7. This launch follows the vehicle’s successful introduction in Kathmandu and is part of the company’s goal to create a nationwide EV network by 2025.

To support this expansion, Proton Nepal is offering test drives, personal consultations, and access to easy financing and government subsidy options for interested buyers.

Jagdamba Motors — the authorized distributor of Proton in Nepal — is also building its third service center in Pokhara to ensure quality after-sales service for customers.

The showroom was inaugurated by Krishna Shrestha, President of the Western Automobiles Dealers Association, and attended by representatives from the FNCCI, Hotel Association Nepal–Pokhara Chapter, NYEF, and the media. Guests showed strong interest in the e.MAS7, especially during a special evening event that highlighted the car’s smart features, long range, and environmental benefits.

“We’re excited to bring Proton to Pokhara — a city known for its natural beauty and progressive spirit,” said Akhil Gupta, Executive Director of Jagdamba Motors. “Our goal is to make clean, smart mobility available to more people across western Nepal. This is just the beginning.”

With Nepal moving quickly toward electric transportation and environmental awareness, Proton’s expansion into Pokhara reinforces its commitment to supporting the country’s clean energy future.

To celebrate the launch, Jagdamba Motors is offering a 0% interest rate on Proton vehicles in Pokhara during the opening week.

Gold prices keep going up

  Kathmandu, June 18 — Gold prices have been rising in the international market since June 10, and this has also pushed up prices in Nepal. When the market opened today, the price of gold had gone up by Rs 900 per tola (11.66 grams) compared to Tuesday, while silver rose by Rs 65 per tola. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, gold is now being traded at Rs 195,500 per tola, and silver at Rs 2,225 per tola. International reports show that gold is currently priced at 3,393 US dollars per ounce in the global market.

Johannes Zutt Named New World Bank Vice President for South Asia

  June 30, Kathmandu – The World Bank has named Johannes Zutt as its new Vice President for the South Asia Region, replacing Martin Raiser. He will officially take on the role starting July 1, 2025. In this position, Zutt will oversee the World Bank’s work in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
