Rasuwa Flood: Eight Victims' Bodies Brought to Kathmandu
Kathmandu, July 9 — The bodies of eight out of the nine people who died in Tuesday’s flash floods in Rasuwa have been brought to Kathmandu for post-mortem at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj. So far, only one of the victims has been identified, according to Nepal Police spokesperson DIG Binod Ghimire. The funeral for that individual was held on Wednesday.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Lal Bahadur Shrestha, who had gone missing during the floods, was found dead on the banks of the Trishuli River at a place called "15 Kilo" in Chitwan. His body was handed over to his family, who have already performed his last rites.
Nineteen people are still missing in the disaster, including two police officers, six Chinese nationals, and eleven civilians. A DNA test is being conducted to help identify the remaining unidentified bodies.
The flash floods also swept away the Miteri Bridge on the Nepal–China border, along with 24 containers, six trucks, and 35 electric vehicles.
Search operations are ongoing along riverbanks in multiple districts, said Sanjay Singh Thapa, spokesperson for the Bagmati Province Police Office. Rescue efforts are also continuing to help people stranded in different parts of Rasuwa.
