Russian Embassy to keep posting on Telegram despite Nepal’s ban

 Kathmandu, July 24

The Russian Embassy in Kathmandu has said it will keep updating its Telegram account, even though the Nepal government has banned the app because of concerns over money laundering and online fraud.

In a statement, the embassy said their official Telegram channel is still running but warned that due to the ban by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, people in Nepal might face trouble accessing it.

The embassy also recommended following their updates on other platforms like VK, Facebook, and Instagram.

They added that they are working hard to keep communication steady through their website and these other social media channels.

It’s worth noting that both VK and Telegram are owned by the same person.

On July 17, the Nepal Telecommunications Authority ordered internet providers to block Telegram, making the app unavailable across Nepal.
