Tea exports through Mechi Customs jump by over 32%

 BHADRAPUR, July 26 — Tea exports through the Mechi Customs Office increased significantly by 32.5% in the fiscal year 2081/82 (2024/25), according to recent data from the office. From Shrawan to Ashadh, tea worth Rs 4.21 billion was exported through this eastern border point, totaling 15,416.76 metric tons. This is a notable rise compared to Rs 3.17 billion worth of tea exported the previous year.


In contrast, exports of large cardamom (alaichi) dropped by 3.2%. Cardamom exports totaled Rs 7.67 billion in 2081/82, down from Rs 7.93 billion in 2080/81.


Other products also showed notable changes:


Veneer sheet exports jumped by 72.3%


Molasses exports soared by a massive 247.5%


Plywood exports increased by 7.6%


Iron sheet exports rose by 1.8%


However, several key exports saw a decline:


Cement clinker exports fell by 13%


Ginger exports plummeted by 60.7%


Broom grass (amriso) exports decreased by 14.9%


Churpi (hard cheese) exports dropped by 1.5%


Overall, the Mechi Customs Office facilitated exports worth Rs 25.13 billion during the last fiscal year.
