The Khumbu Icefall route has been prepared for climbers to begin their ascent of Mount Everest.

 Kathmandu, April 15

More than 200 climbers have received permits to climb Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, this spring.

The Department of Tourism reported that, as of Thursday, 214 people—38 women and 178 men—from 22 mountaineering teams have been granted permission. These climbers come from 31 countries, including Nepal, and have started their journey toward Everest after getting their permits.

The Department began issuing permits at the end of March. Besides Everest, permits have also been given for 17 other mountain peaks. So far, the government has collected around Rs 365.8 million in royalties from mountaineering activities.

In total, 497 climbers—99 women and 398 men from 54 groups—have been authorized to climb various peaks this season.

The climbing route through the Khumbu Icefall has now been prepared. The “icefall doctors” have finished fixing ropes and opened the path through this challenging section.
