The Manaslu region has seen a record number of foreign tourists this year.
KATHMANDU, July 20
The Manaslu Conservation Area in northern Gorkha recorded its highest-ever number of foreign visitors in the fiscal year 2081/82. According to the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP), 12,512 foreign tourists visited the region between Shrawan 1, 2081, and the end of Asar, 2082—breaking all previous records.
Out of the total, 12,248 were from non-SAARC countries and 253 from SAARC nations. Additionally, 11 Nepali tourists paid entry fees to trek the area. This marks an increase of 2,729 tourists compared to the previous fiscal year (2080/81), which saw 9,783 foreign visitors.
MCAP credited the rise in tourism to improved trekking trails, enhanced safety measures, stronger promotional efforts, and better facilities such as hotels and lodges along the route.
French tourists topped the list, with 763 men and 644 women visiting. Other major tourist sources included Germany, the United States, the Netherlands, Israel, the UK, Australia, Spain, Russia, and Canada.
The number of foreign visitors has steadily risen in recent years—7,750 in 2079/80 and just 2,222 in 2078/79—showing a strong post-pandemic recovery in tourism.
